The starwise society became a successful
mystery school in Cleveland, ohio. It disappeared from public sight inexplicably in 1973.
Its origin is history: A skeptical philosopher
is reluctantly transformed and enlightened
when he forms a society for witchcraft
at a Cleveland, Ohio motorcycle
show. He summons a dark
power to avoid death.
At the next show,
it returns.
"The ancient underground society
of alchemists, mystics, alienated visionaries, drop-outs, and the disenchanted young, the sons arising."

Steinbeck lived here, as did London and Kerouac
for a time...
Darrow Clark,
Director (1969-2006).
Dear Sir or Madam:
The new
wave of witchcraft is based on the Old Witchcraft of the past (possibly hundreds of thousands
of years old), for it is based on direct experience into the Great Unknown...
just as it was then.
When
magic is recognized as real in this world it becomes science -- as for example, when a magical force
is termed as "electricity", or when
invisible beings are recognized as "bacteria".
You find yourself on a course that is more
adventure than study, more investigation than simply believing in pre-scientific superstition, more real...
More real? Easily, but even so, much is owed to popular
wicca or traditional witches --who have contributed surprisingly effective methods for these adventures through their
own refinements.
In fact, it's
a good idea to read Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (if you haven't already read it) in addition to anything you
may have read about popular magic thus far. Witchcraft in fantasy opens the door to witchcraft in reality. Light reading paves
the way to study.
You
are already making progress:
FIRST- You are now set free
from any bad-natured evangelism preaching unscientific hogwash of its own creation as a gospel truth, for that
is a form of spiritual constipation that can only block your growth.
SECOND- You can now save hundreds
of dollars often wasted on useless spells, our egotistical man-centered religions, and begin focusing on the real thing.
THIRD- You have discovered that real
witchcraft is a course of adventure --a never-ending exploration into the mysteries of life itself-- beyond all belief
and knowledge.. to the edge of a vast unknown.
A mind closed to the unknown
is open only to dead beliefs of the past.
Witchcraft isn't necessarily evil,
and philosophy examines the lives of saints and sinners, as well as the mysteries of life and the universe.
And we take a trip fifty years back into time
with Bertrand Russell, Jean Paul Sartre, Albert Einstein, and many female adventurers as well.
